When I was young my dad always taught me to put away part of my money and "Save for a rainy day." At the time I didn't exactly understand what he meant by "a rainy day", but I do now. You never know when the car is going to break down, the refrigerator quits or a hundred and one other little accidents will happen that you will need extra money for. If you have extra money put aside you can shop around for the best deal, pay cash for it and save a bundle in interest.

Playing the state lottery, and frequenting casinos, have become prominent pastimes for millions of Americans. More and more people are participating, in the hope of becoming millionaires. While there have been a few exceptions and isolated cases in American history, it is really only recently that gambling has come to be considered socially acceptable. Though times have arisen when gambling became more widespread, overall public sentiment has frowned upon the practice. Gambling generally has been illegal in our society, and the word “gamble” was a slang term of reproach.

Unlike the animals, humans have a conscience. Although evolutionists have yet to explain the existence of the conscience, the fact remains that humans recognize certain behaviors and actions as wrong. So how do you get individuals to do something that they feel is wrong? The answer in a single word is money. Offer an enormous amount of money, and some people are willing to push the envelope or bend the rules.

It is a sad proverb, but so true: "The borrower becomes the lender’s slave" (Proverbs 22:7).
